Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money games?
