Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
