Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
